How to Tackle Spring Cleaning Your Entire Home

Spring Cleaning is a big undertaking. With the right system, you can get the job done! Remember, you don’t have to do it all yourself. A professional cleaning service can help with part or all of your spring cleaning chores.

1. Laundry

The first thing you should do is start a load of laundry. Let the washer and dryer work while you work. Round up bedding, shower curtains, rugs, slipcovers, towels, and bathmats and toss them in the washer while you clean the rest of the house.

2. Kitchen

Load all dirty dishes in the dishwasher and run it. Wipe cabinets and counters. Remove all food from the pantry and refrigerator. Discard anything that’s expired. Sort and organize the useable food and return it to the proper place. Finish by sweeping and mopping the floor.

3. Entryway

Dust cobwebs from the door frame. Change the porch light, if needed. Clean the front door and sweep the stoop. Declutter the foyer by removing winter coats and boots from the coat rack and putting them in storage.

4. Living Room

To clean and organize a large room, start at the top. Dust the ceiling fans and light fixtures first. Clean crown molding with a damp rag. Next, remove all items from flat surfaces such as end tables and shelves. Wipe and dust surfaces. Sort through everything and determine what you can get rid of and what should go back on the shelves. Then vacuum the upholstered furniture. Wipe the baseboards with a damp rag.

5. Bathroom

Scrub the shower, sink, and toilet. Clean behind the toilet and wash the baseboards. Remove everything from the medicine cabinet and drawers. Properly discard expired medicine and beauty products. Get rid of anything you aren’t using. Finish by sweeping and mopping.

6. Bedroom

By this point, the bedding you stripped and placed in the laundry should be clean. Make the bed with fresh linens. Take everything out of closest and drawers. Thoroughly clean and vacuum the empty storage spaces. Discard or donate clothes and shoe you no longer use. A good rule is to get rid of anything you haven’t worn in over a year.

You deserve a clean, organized home, but you don’t have to do it all by yourself. Some families have two parents who work 40+ hours a week. Others are taking care of sick family members. Not everyone has the time to commit to such an intensive project. It may be better to hire a professional for part or all of your spring cleaning tasks.
